The University of Melbourne

Partnering with academics

Assisting academics with the commercialisation of their research is our primary activity.
We do this in 3 main ways:

Commercial Advice

Our door is always open to answer questions about commercialisation and provide advice or contacts that can assist academics in their commercial endeavours.

We may not be experts in all the areas that people ask us about, but we can usually help clarify the issues and identify the right person to ask if we don’t know the answer ourselves. This sort of advice is generally provided pro bono.

Commercialisation assistance

We are committed to the successful commercialisation of University of Melbourne research and can assist academics with understanding the commercial potential of their research and identifying sources of funding.

We have strong relationships with all the major Venture Capital groups in Melbourne, and through our involvement with Uniseed we can also help academics access the Uniseed fund, which was jointly established by the Universities of Melbourne and Queensland. Venture funding is generally provided in return for equity in the start-up business.

Strategic Research Planning

Our staff all have experience in both research and commercial environments, and have a strong set of skills to assist in the preparation of business and strategy plans.

In recent times we have written business plans for major government funding bids at both state and federal levels. This work is generally undertaken on a fee-for-service basis, and only when resources permit.
