Jason is responsible for strategic management of The University of Melbourne's patent and trade mark portfolio. Before joining Melbourne Ventures in early 2006, he worked at a major patent and trade mark attorney firm where he gained experience in many aspects of intellectual property law, most particularly patent law as it relates to the fields of biotechnology and chemistry. Prior to that, he worked as a neuroscientist at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research where his research focused on the role of cell surface receptors in nerve regeneration and neural stem cell biology.

Jason is a registered Australian patent and trade marks attorney. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from La Trobe University and a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Intellectual Property Law from the University of Melbourne.

Jason is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He is also a Member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ) and the Licensing Executives Society of Australia and New Zealand (LESANZ).
