Novel Pediculicide

Hatchtech is a spin-out company from Melbourne University that is developing DeOvo™, a novel treatment for head lice infestation which promises to radically change the standard of treatment for this common parasite. Current product options are both time consuming and cumbersome, and involve treating infested patients with two applications, typically 7-10 days apart. DeOvoTM offers the possibility of a simple and convenient solution to this problem that will clear a head lice infestation with a single 10 minute application.

Hatchtech’s initial discovery that certain active compounds were potent inhibitors of head lice egg hatching, came from University of Melbourne's Centre for Animal Biotechnology and formed a pivotal base for the company as no pediculicidal products on the market had good ovicidal activity. Subsequent translational studies focused on the development of a product that effectively treated both the crawling lice and their eggs and addressed a significant market opportunity.

DeOvo™ is currently being tested in phase II clinical trials.
